They usually eat insects such as flies and aphids, but larger species have been known to eat small lizards, frogs, birds, snakes, or even rodents!! Most are ambush predators, meaning they wait until their prey comes near, and then they capture them at an amazing speed! Masters of camouflage, some species not only blend with their surroundings, but can even mimic the leaf, branch or stick they’re sitting on. Usually protected through just their concealment abilities, they will often stand tall and spread their forelegs, with their wings fanning out wide. This makes it seem large and threatening to potential predators.
