Crinoids are marine animals that are a class of the Echinoderm family.  Often called sea lilies or feather-stars, they are identified by a mouth on the top surface of their body that is surrounded by feeding arms. Similar in shape to starfish and other echinoderms due to having fivefold symmetry, they can have a multitude of arms on their bodies.  They feed on small particles of food in sea water by filtering the food with their arms.  Although there are only a few hundred forms of crionoides in existence today, it is believed that they were much more numerous in forms and numbers in the past. They first appeared during the Cambrian Period and became abundant during the Paleozoic Era. This crinoide fossil plate was found in Morocco and is dated from almost 530 million years ago.  It is a wonderful fossil specimen to show in a classroom setting or to grab as a collector's item for your favorite fossil fanatic, and is shipped in a neat recyclable box.  Highly recommended for those wanting to study fossils or paleontology in an up-close and personal way!
